Our Chico Halloween Experience!!!

Chico is an AMAZING place for kids for the Holidays and other events and Halloween is no exception. My hubby and I were excited to be able to take the doodlebug out and show her what its all about. I had picked up a cute little ladybug costume at the 2nd hand store down the street( Apple baby Blossom). She had wore it the night before while we were at an kids Halloween event at In Motion Fitness, the Gym that Ben works at. Anyways Ben was going to get off work at 4 so we could go downtown because the event ended at 5. I had planned to be a black cat since i already had a cute black dress that I had only worn once for my sister in laws bachelorette party. So i picked up some cheap cat ears and painted on some whiskers and called it good. Pre- Doodlebug, I used to love to dress up but these days its not really a priority. I had told Ben that I was going to dress up and he simply stated, "if you are out feel free to pick me up something to wear."
So with that bit of info Doodlebug and I headed down to the Halloween Headquarters where we were greeted by two large automated zombies which scared the &^%&* out of me but my fearless daughter didn't even flinch. So we proceeded to the back of the store all the while D is pointing at recognizable faces like Bert and Ernie and Scooby Doo that were just a few of the costume options. Now that she walks she hardly will let me put her in the cart as she knows what her body can do and her brain has not caught up to it yet. So I am looking at the costumes and toggling between the Family Guy Dog, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and an Avatar costume. After 20 min and Delaney pulling multiple costumes off their pegs I decided to get the Avatar with the rationale that my hubby loved that movie and appreciated the CGI special effects and also that it was a whole complete costume and was on sale for only $20. Thinking that my hubby always loved and appreciated when i took every change to be frugal I went for it.
Well Ben got home at 4 and I was not fully prepared. We threw D's costume on sans the tights because they were still in the wash from the night before. I threw my outfit together in 5 min and then presented Ben with his costume as he made a curious face as to what I was up to. he was a bit shocked when I presented him with the costume. I was thinking he is gonna love this and he looked at it nervously smiling saying, " a whole costume, i thought you'd just get me a clown wig or something." I feeling bad and needing reassurance stated " you don't like it" and he added, "Well its a little out of my comfort zone I'm not really a costume guy, but I'll wear it." Like a good sport her put it on. My hubby has a tendency to overheat and this literally head to toe outfit did not help that situation, plus it was a particularly hot day here. The costume was also slightly small fitting quite well around his whole body except the neck. poor guy. Well we got downtown and it was still buzzing with kids and their families. We put D in her wagon which is her preferred mode of transportation, ( besides her own feet) and filled it with snacks and toys to keep her occupied/distracted. When we started going she did not seem happy and let us know by her fussing and wining and constantly trying to stand up in the wagon. So Ben carried her most of the time as we went from store to store getting candy and interacting with other kids and parents. Every kid that saw Ben in his uniform would yell out " Avatar!" from a distance. One kid stared at him in awe and said " is that a mask?" he was a definite downtown Halloween celebrity. Even preteen girls were breaking their necks looking at the tall handsome Avatar walking down the street. I think he secretly was enjoying it. Then we came to a shop where there was a man in an Elmo costume handing out candy. D loves Elmo and so I waited in line to get a pic next to him while holding her. When the scale of this immense Elmo came into perspective Delaney nearly jumped out of my arms and squealed in horror. That was pretty much it for downtown. After that we headed to the Chico MAll where it was a much better atmosphere for a toddler and spent the rest of the evening there. When we got home, we saw D's best friend/neighbor Julianna standing at our doorstep and her grandma was with her AND guess what she was dressed as a LADYBUG! It was so cute and a total coincidence. Her grandma said that she just walked up to the doorstep and would not leave. She is the sweetest kid ever SO affectionate and has the cutest big cheeks. We got pics of them together and then they unwilling parted ways, both girls crying as they left each other. So that was it and I am SO looking forward to next year.

Remember the 90's!!!?

Just thought I'd take a short stop down memory lane and was hoping that a few of you could join me. In retrospect it seemed like t he 90's fashion-wise was not pinpointed to one specific style. The 50's had their poodle skirts, 60's had tie dye, the 70's bell bottoms and the 80's neon. The 90's did not seem to discriminate and in some ways there were elements of it all. Grunge was definitely full force ( Thanks Kurt Cobain) but there was so much more. I graduated in 96 from San Benito High school in Hollister, Ca. Home of the Haybalers, that's right formerly Hick town. before they were the Haybalers it was the Apricots. That's what you get for growing up in a hick town. On the weekends we would go cruising, hang out at Hollister Hills or meet in the Taco Bell parking lot.I know sounds exciting, well it was.Thes reason I am discussing this topic is because I love to reminisce. I know what your thinking I will make a great oldie. LOL but I am also into fashion trends and have noticed that some of the new fashion styles are a bit retro 90's. Does anyone remember what digs you sported during that time. For me my Dr. Martens were my best friends. Here are a a list of popular boys and girls trends from the nifty 90's:
Girls:
Clunky shoes, Ugg Boots, Chokers, Denim, leotard, flannel, pastel colors, tight clothes, baggy clothes, ripped jeans, sweat pants, short shorts, shell necklaces.
Guys: Combat Boots, Pocket chains, baggy clothes, big puffy jackets, the color black

Some classic timeless 90's hits include:
Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (91)
Sir Mix A lot "Baby got Back ( 92)
Beasty Boys "Sabatoge" (94)
House of Pain "Jump Around" (92)
2PAc and Dr. Dre " California Love" (96) best year

Songs that need to make a comeback:in my opinion
Beck "Loser" (94)
Soundgarden "BlackHole Sun" (94)
Weezer "Buddy Holly" (94)
The Cranberries "Linger" (93)

Songs that can go down in flames forever:

Hanson "Mmmmbop" (97)
Billy Ray Cyrus "Achy Breaky Heart"
Aqua " Barbie Girl" (96?)

Here are some pics of me in High School ( Don't laugh) .I'm the second from the right in the white shorts. Remember don't forget this wonderful era. Seems like yesterday. Listen to me I sound so old. Well Please feel free to share your thoughts, experiences and favorites from this time.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Last weekend I went to Hollister with my hubby and baby girl to spend time with mi familia and celebrate my grandmas 88th birthday! Good times were had by all and the weather was unusual for a Hollister day. It was actually quite Hot out and I don't use that word lightly considering where I live now. As I observed my grandma and the 3 generations of family surrounding her it made me happy and I could not help but think about the fact that hopefully I will be in her shoes doing that exact thing someday. Delaney had a blast playing in the water and with her older cousins. Whenever we take a trip to Hollister we always take advantage of the very willing extra hands to take care of her.
Almost every time we go there we jot over to the Gilroy outlets for a mini shopping spree. My personal favs are Charlotte Russe, Nike and Famous Footwear. Sometimes we hit up a movie or got to our fav little Mexican Restaurant in a cute small little mission town nearby, San Juan Bautista. The restaurant is called Jardines and I would definitely put it on your bucket list if you have not been there. Best outdoor patios, great margaritas, delicious food and scenery, minutes from the San Juan mission. the whole town has historical elements to it and its on the way to Salinas, Monterey and Carmel. Anywhoo, I wanted to discuss some of the more " Did that just happen?" moments, hence the good, the bad and the ugly. I will just list them for you!

  • Witnessed my mother putting in her eye drops and stating "wow this burns". I quickly ask her if she is sure they are eye drops and then snatch the bottle from her hands to read a label that says nasal spray. Ouch! Quickly make mom get in shower and rinse eyes. Mom's vision is not as good as it once was and I guess this is a classic example. (The Bad)

  • While we were shopping at the outlets we had just finished up and walked back to the car and saw these hanging from the truck next to us. They are called truck nuts and I have seen them before but its been awhile and my jaw drops every time at how appalling they are. Here is a pic for you ( The ugly)

  • The good was being with family and almost everyone being there. Also, that my hubby stayed late and drove the nasty long trip back on Hwy 5 and 99 all alone.

A bit about us!

Hi there! We are Tiffany and Ben we along with our incredible daughter who gives us MUCH inspiration are Doolittle Design. We are excited yet a bit nervous to start this journey. If you know either of us on a personal level you know that we are both private people when it comes to opening up our lives. However, I am stepping out there in faith and am hoping through this to connect with others, share personal experiences, find inspiration and share our designs with you.
Ben is the actual designer. He has been designing for about 6 years now and is EXTREMELY talented. He works locally but stays busy freelancing as well. I am not a designer, but I enjoy being creative and take part in helping Ben come up with designs and market them for others to enjoy. Our designs are catered to anyone with a baby or who enjoys fun, whimsical retro art. My husband and I are quite fond of retro slang particularly from the 20's and 50's era and much of that has inspired our art.
I am a social worker. I have been working in this profession for nearly 10 years. That makes me feel old. I work with kids now, but have worked with veterans, mentally ill, developmentally disabled and seniors.
I wanted to become a social worker while I was employed at a boys group home.I worked there for 6.5 years. It was one of the most challenging jobs of my life but also the most fun and rewarding. That is how I would still describe what I do. I find it an honor to be let into peoples lives and help them with there most difficult life challenges.
I actually worked with Ben at the group home for several years. We did not date till much later because one or the other of us was always in a relationship AND when I first met Ben he was 3 years younger than I and too much of a tenderonie for me. I had to wait till our maturity levels caught up with one another ( sorry honey).
We dated one whole year then Ben took an annual trip with his father to Hot August Nights in Reno, CA and while he was there he sold his Jeep and his dirt bike ( man toys) to buy my engagement ring. The most mature and awesome thing ever! sigh. We were engaged for a short 6months and then married in June of 2006 in the scorching 106 degree Chico heat. Ouch! We have now been married for five years and have a 13 month old daughter Delaney Ruth. She is the sweetest happiest thing ever. Except lately she is working on growing some molars ( my nemesis) so she is a bit moodier that usual ( understandably). Please feel free to stop by and say hello. We sincerely want to get to know you and hope you find our stories interesting and relatable.
